Cuba Salsa & Spice Tour Itinerary

There are a selection of flights from the US, and Trump Tours will be happy to assist you with flight reservations. Trump Tours will also provide all information needed to secure your visa (US $50) and other necessary paperwork. Be sure to pack some patience in your bag, because the Havana airport is not yet outfitted for multiple airplane arrivals. After exiting baggage claim, you will be transferred to a premium guesthouse. A casa particulares is a unique result of home owners being allowed to transform their dwellings into bed and breakfast accommodations. You will be joined by a Cuban tour manager as well as a Trump Tours tour manager. Short panorama orientation of Havana ending at Hotel Nacional. Visit the Hall of Fame and enjoy a demonstration on how to make an authentic mojito with tasting. Welcome reception with group introductions and briefing about the trip. Dinner at a local well-known restaurant with entertainment by some artists of the Buena Vista.

Start the day with a walk through a local agro Mercado, to see how locals buy some of their food. Walking tour of Old Havana, a UNESCO world heritage site, located within the old city walls. See the San Cristobal Cathedral, built in 1748, stroll along the narrow, cobblestoned streets passing from plaza to plaza. Visit cigar factory and also the Havana Club rum museum. Travel outside of Havana for lunch at a family owned restaurant that grows most of their own produce and host several social projects. Continue to visit Hemingway’s home. Return to the city and, for those interested, learn the salsa and the casino rueda (group salsa dance). The session will end with a cool Cuba Libre cocktail. Return to guesthouse. For those who wish, participate in the preparation of Moros y Cris-tianos (black beans and rice) and a casserole with Yucca, Malanga and Chicken. Enjoy dinner at the guesthouse. Late this evening, optional trip to the Case de la Música for salsa music and dancing with assistance of today’s teachers.

After breakfast, depart for Pinar del Rio and the Vinales Valley, one of the natural wonders of Cuba and home of the best tobacco in the world. Visit a local tobacco farm including lunch. See the tobacco producing process including field production, drying sheds, rolling technique and learn about the distribution commodities and control by the state. Cigars available for personal consumption in a beautiful setting. Lunch will be a Guajiro (cowboy) Lunch with smoked pork and Ajicao, the famous Cuban stew. Continue to the Vinales Valley, an idyllic village perched in the quilted landscape of fertile, oxen ploughed fields, rich tobacco plantations and incredible karst landscapes. Descend into the Cuevo del Indigo (Indian Cave) and discover this indigenous dwelling by boat. Visit the Casa de la Cultura for live music. Hotel check-in and dinner at the hotel.

Hiking in the valley this morning where we will learn about coffee production and small scale vegetable farming that supplies produce to local restaurants. Lunch on a sustainable farm with an incredible view over the valley. This afternoon a guajira (cowboy) will join us for live music during our one hour salsa lesson. Visit the Casa de la Cultura for live music.

Depart to the mid south part of the island. Stop at the Zapata peninsula to visit Korimakao, a social project supported by the state. The project develops artists, musicians and dancers to then go to the rural parts of Cuba to teach and entertainment with their trade. Lunch at a local restaurant. Continue to Trinidad, over 500 years old, known as one of the best preserved colonial towns in the Caribbean. Trinidad is UNESCO world heritage protected; this designation along with investment monies have preserved the 200 year old buildings. The Caribbean whitewash colors of pinks, turquoises, corals, limes and yellows add to the charm and history. Check into your casa particulares (within ten minutes – an uphill walk from the central square) where you will spend the next two nights. Dinner will be at your guesthouse where you will learn to make Tamales Cubanos and Ropa Vieja.

After breakfast, depart in bike taxis to visit a local produce market. City tour of Trinidad. Stop for a drink and also pause for a coffee and learn about coffee culture in Cuba. This afternoon enjoy incredible views of the Sierra del Escambray mountains and the Val de los Ingenios, on the way to Manaca Iznaga, a sugar estate established in 1750. The building, now housing a restaurant, will give you a taste of how the lords of the estates lived during those times. Also see a sugar press and, for those who wish, a tower to climb for incredible views. Meet local artisans who produce intricate lace tablecloths. Continue to the Mill Valley museum. Return to casa to relax and refresh. Climb into an American 40s or 50s vintage car for a cruise along the sea. Dinner at a private family restaurant by the sea. Return to Trinidad and continue, if you wish, to learn the rhythms of Cuba practicing the salsa and sol montuno.

Travel via Cienfuegos and tour the historical city center that also has UNESCO world heritage site designation. The town is neo-classic in style as it was established in the early 1800s at the height of the sugar trade. Lunch on own and time to enjoy the town. Travel to Havana and check into hotel. The hotel has a resort feel with large swimming pool, bar, spa, gym, several restaurants and nightly entertainment. Special farewell dinner at private Havana restaurant.

Breakfast at leisure. Morning meeting at hotel to wrap up and have discussions on the impressions of Cuba. Transfer to airport for flight back to US.
